The candles lit at the Hanuka festival rest in a nine armed candelabrum. One of the candles, the "shamash" (beadle), is used to light the others; an additional candle is added each night of the eight day celebration. Yehia's design reflects the "Bezalel" hanukia of the late twenties, which, unlike the European technique of copper or brass casting, shows an Oriental architecture influence. It is hand constructed from silver sheet and embellished with motifs illustrating Maccabean heroism, and showing ancient Hebrew coins, paired lions, various other emblems of Jewish statehood and antiquity, and verses associated with the Festival of Lights.    The hanukia also has geometrical post-Baroque ornamentation, filigree decorations, and turquoise stone settings.
